Wishes of 39 critically ill children in Sabah granted

KOTA KINABALU (March 27): Make-A-Wish Malaysia granted the wishes of 39 critically ill children at Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Sabah, bringing hope and strength to young patients battling life-threatening conditions.

This heartwarming initiative was made even more memorable by a visit from Sabah FC team captain Dominic Tan, Damien Lim, Darren Lok, Telmo Castanheira and manager Scott Ollerenshaw.

Make-A-Wish Malaysia has been working with doctors from Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Sabah since 2021, bringing hope and courage to children battling critical illnesses.

The event, which marks one of the largest wish-granting efforts in Sabah, saw children receiving their most cherished wishes, from toys to gadgets, all aimed at bringing them strength and joy in their medical battle and reminding the children and their families that they are not alone in their journey.

“Today’s event is a testament to the power of a wish. Each wish granted is a source of strength and motivation for these children to keep fighting.

“We are deeply grateful to Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Sabah for opening their doors to us and allowing us to bring joy to these brave young patients. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Sabah FC who took their time to uplift and inspire these children” said board member of Make-A-Wish Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr Nick Low.

Ollerenshaw, who is also Sabah FC technical director, expressed the team’s honor in being part of the initiative, saying, “It was a pleasure for the team to be a part of this special day. Meeting these incredibly brave children was truly inspiring and glad that we can be here to remind them that they have a whole team cheering them on.”

Make-A-Wish Malaysia remains committed to granting life-changing wishes to critically ill children across the nation. The organisation relies on the generosity of donors and supporters to continue making a difference. Every contribution helps bring hope and joy to these children, and all donations are tax deductible.

To continue granting life-changing wishes of critically ill children, Make-A-Wish Malaysia will be hosting its 12th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on 7 May 2025. The tournament brings together 140 golfers, event sponsors and generous donors for a meaningful day of golf and giving back. Proceeds from the tournament will help fund future wishes.
