KUALA LUMPUR, 1 June 2025 — Malaysia’s leading energy utility, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), has taken a major step in strengthening its global footprint by signing a strategic joint venture with Kuwait’s Al-Dhow Engineering through its wholly owned subsidiary TNB REMACO.
The agreement was inked during the 46th ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia–GCC energy cooperation. The two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to foster joint ventures in power generation and water desalination projects across key Gulf nations, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and others in the region.
The ceremony was witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of Kuwait, and YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia — underscoring the high-level commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and energy partnerships between Malaysia and the Gulf states.
“This collaboration reflects TNB’s strategic vision to grow regionally while supporting global energy needs with sustainable and reliable solutions,” said a spokesperson from TNB REMACO. “It is also a testament to Malaysia’s rising role in the international energy transition landscape.”
Through this MoU, TNB REMACO and Al-Dhow Engineering will jointly explore and develop engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance (EPCM) projects in the thermal power and water desalination sectors — key infrastructure areas for GCC countries facing increasing energy demand and water scarcity.
The partnership is aligned with TNB’s internationalisation strategy and complements Malaysia’s broader commitment to export clean energy expertise, innovation, and engineering excellence.
With this venture, TNB continues its drive to deliver Better, Brighter energy solutions across borders, supporting regional goals for energy resilience and sustainability.
