Vienna, Austria – Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to international cybercrime prevention by co-hosting two high-level events with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), marking the 25th anniversary of the Thailand–OSCE partnership.
On 30 May and 2 June 2025, Her Excellency Ms. Pattarat Hongthong, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the OSCE, led the Thai delegation alongside Professor Wisit Wisitsora-at, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), at the OSCE Asian Partners for Co-operation Group (APCG) Meeting and a Special Workshop on “Combatting Online Scams.”
The events, co-hosted by Thailand and Malta—the 2025 Chairperson of the OSCE Asian Partners—brought together high-level representatives from 57 OSCE Participating States and five Asian Partner countries: Afghanistan, Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Thailand.
As Chair of the ASEAN Working Group on Anti-Online Scam (WG-AS), Professor Wisitsora-at delivered a keynote address highlighting ASEAN’s regional strategies and Thailand’s national initiatives to counter the growing threat of online scams, which are increasingly linked to financial crimes and human trafficking.
Thai panelists from key national agencies—including the Bank of Thailand, Securities and Exchange Commission, National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, and the Anti-Online Scam Operation Centre—shared legal frameworks and best practices with participants from across the OSCE region. Representatives from the public and private sectors, including online platform operators, participated in panel discussions, exchanging insights on cross-border cooperation and digital security.
The APCG Meeting underscored the importance of fostering public-private partnerships and enhancing coordination among law enforcement agencies. Delegates called for greater information sharing, corporate responsibility from digital platforms, and the integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data analytics in identifying and prosecuting cybercriminals.
This year’s events reinforced the OSCE-Asia dialogue platform, which facilitates annual engagement between OSCE states and Asian Partners on pressing regional and global security challenges. As the 25th year of Thailand’s partnership with the OSCE, the occasion highlighted deepening cooperation on digital safety and cybersecurity in the face of transnational threats.
