PM Anwar Praises LHDN’s Performance, Confident in Future Revenue Growth

CYBERJAYA, March 10 (Bernama) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) for its strong performance, highlighting its achievements and the implementation of new digital systems that have enhanced efficiency.

“I am optimistic. First, I am very impressed with LHDN’s performance over the last few years, particularly last year. It is now more organized and structured, and the introduction of new instruments like the e-invoice has significantly helped,” he told reporters after attending the 29th HASiL Day celebration today.

Anwar expressed confidence that with LHDN’s current standards and discipline, the agency would continue improving its performance and further contribute to national revenue growth.

Tax Collection and Government Commitment
In 2024, Malaysia’s direct tax collection reached RM184.805 billion, reflecting an increase of RM1.465 billion compared to the RM183.34 billion collected in 2023.

During his speech, Anwar emphasized that the government remains firm in ensuring that all citizens, including the upper class and ultra-rich, fulfill their tax obligations.

“We do not allow room for the wealthy to evade their responsibilities as citizens,” he stated.

Public Compliance and Taxpayer Appreciation
Anwar also expressed gratitude to the public for their commitment to paying taxes, particularly major corporate figures who have complied without exception.

“I always remind ministers to offer their full support to LHDN. So far, no one has appealed to me for tax exemptions,” he said.

Malaysia’s Tax Relief Policies
The Prime Minister noted that Malaysia remains one of the most tax-relief-friendly nations in ASEAN, particularly for B40 and M40 income groups, considering their needs in family welfare, education, and healthcare.

“Despite the substantial tax relief provided, efforts to enhance revenue collection must continue,” he stressed.
