KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is working closely with the Federal Government, the Sarawak State Government, and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) to finalize the details of Petros’ future role as the state’s gas aggregator.
In a statement, Petronas said that this effort aims to ensure that the rights and interests of all parties, including end customers and investors, are duly considered.
“The primary focus will be on ensuring certainty in the investment climate,” the company stated in response to Bernama’s inquiry regarding a news report that suggested otherwise about the progress of collaboration between Petronas and Petros.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently stated that the Federal Government will hold discussions with the Sarawak State Government to further define the scope of cooperation between Petros and Petronas.
He said the discussions would focus on exploring joint collaborations between the two companies for future projects in any sector.
Petros as the Official Gas Aggregator
In February, Anwar stated that Petronas would continue to fulfill all its domestic and international contractual obligations, while Petros would act as Sarawak’s gas aggregator under the state’s gas distribution regulations, which came into effect on March 1.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, confirmed Petros’ role as the state’s gas aggregator, although this does not include liquefied natural gas (LNG).
