KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) – Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) is steering firmly towards sustainable growth as it adapts to the global energy transition, said its chairman Datuk Adif Zulkifli in the company’s Annual Report 2024.
He said the company’s strategic agenda remains focused on operational excellence, expanding along the natural gas value chain, and seizing emerging opportunities in the evolving energy landscape.
“With rising demand for natural gas in Malaysia, we see significant growth potential. The near completion of our liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage and transmission infrastructure marks a key milestone,” he said.
Adif revealed that the PGB board approved a final investment decision last year for the construction of a new 100-megawatt gas power plant in Kimanis, Sabah. In parallel, feasibility studies are underway for several expansion projects, including gas infrastructure developments.
“These efforts will not only support national energy needs—especially as coal-fired plants are gradually phased out—but also drive revenue growth,” he added.
As ASEAN countries move towards greater regional energy integration, Malaysia’s strategic location and robust natural gas infrastructure position it well to become a regional gas hub, Adif noted.
“Leveraging our proven capabilities and expertise, we are strategically positioning PGB as a key enabler of the Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline initiative,” he said.
To support this vision, PGB continues to actively engage with government agencies and international policymakers to help shape regulations and policies affecting the gas sector.
Adif said these strategic initiatives over recent years have laid a strong foundation for PGB’s transformation—from a traditional energy company into a driving force in Malaysia’s energy transition.
He reaffirmed PGB’s commitment to responsible business practices and sustainable growth as it plays a key role in shaping the future of the national energy landscape.
