Malaysia’s Boeing Aircraft Purchase Strengthens Global Aviation Presence – Tengku Zafrul

KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 (Bernama) – The recent purchase of new Boeing aircraft by Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) marks a strategic investment that reinforces Malaysia’s standing as a key player in the global aviation industry, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

He said the acquisition not only supports MAG’s fleet modernisation plans but also benefits Boeing Composites Malaysia (BCM), a vital component of Boeing’s global supply chain that operates in Malaysia and currently employs around 1,000 Malaysians.

“This move aligns perfectly with Malaysia’s aspiration to become a regional aerospace hub by 2030,” Tengku Zafrul said in a social media post today.

On Friday, MAG announced the direct purchase of 30 new Boeing aircraft as part of its long-term fleet renewal strategy. The order includes 18 Boeing 737-8 and 12 Boeing 737-10 aircraft, all powered by CFM LEAP-1B engines. MAG has also secured options for an additional 30 Boeing 737 aircraft.

MAG Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said the decision to acquire the 737-8 and 737-10 models was made after a thorough assessment of the group’s long-term growth strategy, ensuring the airline is equipped to meet evolving market demands.
