Malaysia Eyes RM180 Billion in Property Sales for 2025, Explores Senior Living Market

KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) – The Housing and Local Government Ministry has set an ambitious target of RM180 billion in property sales across all sectors this year, according to its minister, Nga Kor Ming.

Speaking at a press conference in conjunction with a three-day Asia Real Estate Leaders (AREL) study tour to Melbourne, Australia, Nga said the ministry is collaborating with the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (REHDA) Malaysia to organise the inaugural ASEAN Real Estate Conference (AREQ 2025). The event, scheduled for July 23-26, will be held alongside the Architecture, Interior Design & Building Exhibition (ARCHIDEX) and is expected to draw participation from ASEAN countries as well as China.

“We anticipate over 50,000 visitors and property transactions worth approximately RM1.2 billion during the event,” Nga said.

The AREL study tour, jointly organised by REHDA Institute and Monash University, brought together more than 180 key stakeholders from Malaysia and Australia’s housing and real estate sectors. The programme provided Malaysian developers with insights from leading Australian experts on mixed-use developments, retirement villages, sustainable housing, social housing, and urban township planning.

Nga also noted that Malaysia recorded the highest volume and value of property transactions in a decade in 2024, highlighting the strength of the country’s real estate market.

Meanwhile, he said the ministry is keen to explore senior living developments as an emerging segment within the domestic housing market, in line with evolving demographic trends.

To support further research, the ministry has allocated RM30,000 to REHDA Institute to assist in property market studies and development strategies.
