Magnitude 7.7 Earthquake Hits Myanmar, Tremors Felt in Neighboring Countries

KUALA LUMPUR: A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck central Myanmar on Friday, with tremors felt in several neighboring countries.

The tremors caused panic among residents in southern Thailand, where hundreds of people reportedly rushed out of buildings as a safety precaution.

Media agencies reported that a building under construction in the Chatuchak district of Thailand collapsed due to the tremors.

In addition to Thailand, the tremors were also reportedly felt in Bangladesh, India, Laos, and China.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter located approximately 17.2 kilometers from the city of Mandalay, which has a population of around 1.2 million.

As of now, there have been no official reports of damage or casualties related to the incident.

Local authorities are currently conducting monitoring efforts to assess the impact of the earthquake on affected areas.
