KOTA KINABALU (April 4): The decades-long dispute over a 7,200-square-foot land at SJK(C) Chung Hwa Kota Kinabalu has finally been resolved, marking a significant victory for the Chinese community in Sabah.
In a major breakthrough, the Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) has successfully obtained a one-hectare (9,975.7 sq m) land title in Likas, exchanged for the original disputed plot. The new land, designated for educational use under a Term Lease (TL017564742) expiring on December 31, 2121, will serve as parking and open space for SJK(C) Chung Hwa Likas.
Additionally, KKCCCI received the title for a 2.2-acre (8,894.1 sq m) plot (TL017564733) at SJK(C) Chung Hwa Kota Kinabalu, with its lease extended until December 31, 2120.
KKCCCI president Datuk Michael Lui, accompanied by council members, expressed gratitude during a courtesy visit to Sabah Land and Survey Department director Datuk Sr Bernard Liew, praising the swift issuance of the titles.
Lui credited the success to the relentless efforts of the community and leaders, including Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal, as well as supportive ministers and Chinese organizations.
“After years of persistence, we’ve finally secured these crucial land titles — a milestone for Chinese education in Sabah!” Lui declared.
