KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) will elevate the Iftar@KL program as one of the key attractions to be promoted in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (TMM2026).
Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan stated that this program is significant as a tourist attraction because it showcases the unique variety of delicacies and the Ramadan celebrations in Malaysia.
“The months of Ramadan and Syawal in our country have their own uniqueness compared to other countries. It is not only celebrated by the Muslim community but also by people of different religions, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
“This is our strength that should be highlighted, as this program not only showcases the beauty of Malaysian culture but also strengthens the country’s image as a Muslim-friendly tourism destination,” he said at the Iftar@KL 2025 press conference at Dataran Merdeka yesterday.
He added that his ministry will also hold further discussions with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to develop a contingency plan to ensure the smooth execution of the program for the convenience and comfort of visitors.
When asked whether the ministry plans to provide incentives for influencers to promote the uniqueness of Ramadan delicacies and celebrations for TMM2026, Khairul Firdaus said that MOTAC will further refine the proposal.
“InshaAllah, the ministry will consider and detail out this proposal to determine how we can elevate and introduce our food, especially in Ramadan bazaars, to the world,” he added.
Regarding Iftar@KL 2025, he noted that more than 35,000 visitors attended the event despite unfavorable weather conditions.
The four-day event, held on March 15, 16, 22, and 23 at Dataran Merdeka, aims to enliven Ramadan, strengthen unity and inter-racial tolerance, and promote Islamic culture and arts to tourists.
Among the activities featured in the program are:
Mass iftar (breaking of fast)
Ramadan talks (Tazkirah Ramadan)
Various food trucks
Congregational prayers and Tarawih
Charity contributions to underprivileged groups (asnaf) and those in need
Meanwhile, Nur Annisa Nabila Mohd Norman, 26, one of the attendees, shared her meaningful experience participating in Iftar@KL 2025 for the first time.
“Although it was raining heavily during iftar, the atmosphere remained lively and full of spirit. I hope this program will continue and improve over time,” she said.
