Home-Based Learning Plan for Schools Near ASEAN Summit Venues to Be Announced Soon

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 May 2025 – The Ministry of Education is expected to announce a home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) arrangement for schools located near the venues of the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Speaking at a media briefing, Fahmi said the initiative is being considered to minimize disruptions to school operations due to security measures and traffic diversions during the high-level summit, which will see the presence of Southeast Asian leaders and international delegates.

“We understand the potential inconvenience for students and parents, especially with traffic congestion and safety protocols in place. The Education Ministry will issue an official announcement regarding schools that will switch to PdPR in the affected areas,” he said.

The ASEAN Summit, a key diplomatic event, is set to take place in the heart of the capital and will involve road closures and heightened security in surrounding zones. Fahmi emphasized that coordination between ministries is ongoing to ensure that both national security and public convenience are balanced during the summit.

Schools near major venues, including hotels and convention centers hosting the summit events, are expected to be included in the list for temporary home-based learning arrangements. The announcement is anticipated to include specific dates and guidelines for PdPR implementation.

Parents and guardians are advised to monitor official announcements from the Ministry of Education for the latest updates and instructions.
