GE2025: NSP to Field Mix of Veterans and Newcomers in Tampines GRC

SINGAPORE – The National Solidarity Party (NSP) plans to contest the upcoming General Election in Tampines Group Representation Constituency (GRC) with a slate combining seasoned politicians and fresh faces, according to party president Reno Fong.

Speaking on Sunday (Mar 16) during the party’s first walkabout since the release of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC) report, Fong confirmed that both he and NSP vice-president Mohd Ridzwan Mohammad will run in Tampines GRC. They will be joined by three new candidates, whose identities will be disclosed at a later date.

In the 2020 General Election, NSP secured 33.59% of the vote in Tampines GRC, while the incumbent People’s Action Party (PAP) garnered 66.41%.

During Sunday’s walkabout, approximately 20 NSP members and volunteers engaged with residents around Our Tampines Hub and the Darul Ghufran Mosque. They were accompanied by members of coalition partners, including the Singapore People’s Party (SPP), Red Dot United (RDU), and the Singapore United Party (SUP), who assisted in distributing coalition materials.

Tampines GRC is anticipated to be a focal point in the forthcoming election. In February, People’s Power Party (PPP) secretary-general Goh Meng Seng announced his party’s intention to contest the constituency. Addressing the potential for multi-cornered contests, Fong stated that NSP is prepared to engage in such scenarios if necessary, emphasizing the party’s commitment to contesting areas of historical significance to them.

Following the EBRC report, which detailed changes to electoral boundaries, NSP expressed intentions to contest in seven constituencies, including the newly formed Tampines Changkat Single Member Constituency (SMC). Fong acknowledged the challenges in Tampines Changkat, citing the PAP’s longstanding influence in the area, but indicated that NSP is considering fielding candidates there, contingent upon the emergence of suitable contenders.

Regarding the redrawn electoral boundaries, Fong criticized the frequent changes, suggesting they may not serve residents’ best interests. He also reiterated NSP’s commitment to collaborating with other opposition parties to minimize multi-cornered fights, aiming for a more unified opposition front in the upcoming election.
