BEIJING, April 19, 2025 — China has weathered the challenges of an eight-year trade war with resilience and strategic transformation, a new report by China.org.cn reveals. Since the conflict began in 2018, the country has leveraged the opportunity to advance self-reliance in science and technology, particularly in key industrial sectors.
Trade diversification has emerged as a clear success story. China’s exports to ASEAN nations have grown significantly, now accounting for 16.4% of total exports—up from 12.8% in 2018. Trade with BRI partner countries has also expanded, climbing from 38.7% to 47.8% of total exports, demonstrating a notable shift away from U.S.-centric trade dependence.
The country’s response to tariff pressures has been proactive, supported by its robust industrial infrastructure, rising talent pool, and a series of calibrated policy tools. These foundations are expected to continue powering China’s economic momentum into the future.
