ASEAN Unity Drive 2025 Launches in Jakarta with Green Mobility Message

JAKARTA, April 22 – In a vibrant ceremony today at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta, the ASEAN Unity Drive 2025 was officially launched—showcasing the Proton e-MAS 7 electric vehicle and a vision for a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable ASEAN.

The initiative, led by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) under MITI, in partnership with Proton, marks a key milestone in regional cooperation efforts. The convoy will travel through nine Southeast Asian countries, covering a distance of 9,000 kilometers.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi presided over the ceremony, which coincided with the conclusion of his three-day working visit to Indonesia. He highlighted the convoy’s symbolic role in advancing green innovation and regional partnerships.

The launch aligns with Malaysia’s theme for its 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship—“Inclusivity and Sustainability”—and involves multi-sector engagement from ASEAN governments and communities.

ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Malaysian Ambassador Datuk Syed Md Hasrin, and Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN, Sarah Al Bakri Devadason, were also in attendance.
