ASEAN, South Korea to Bolster Ties with New Five-Year Strategic Plan

JAKARTA, March 27 (Bernama) – ASEAN and South Korea are poised to strengthen their ties through a new five-year Plan of Action (POA) under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), set to guide collaboration from 2026 to 2030.

According to the ASEAN Secretariat, the successor plan is currently in development and is expected to be finalised and adopted by both sides during the ASEAN-South Korea Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled for July 2025.

The renewed commitment was reaffirmed during the 12th ASEAN-South Korea Joint Cooperation Committee Meeting, held Tuesday at the ASEAN Headquarters.

The meeting focused on broadening cooperation across key sectors, including trade and investment—particularly through the implementation of the ASEAN-South Korea Free Trade Agreement—as well as digitalisation, connectivity, cybersecurity, clean energy, sustainable development, education, disaster management, environmental protection, climate change, smart cities, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Officials also highlighted notable progress achieved under the current POA (2021–2025), particularly in areas such as political and security cooperation, digital transformation, tourism, energy, environment, health, youth engagement, and cultural exchange.
