ASEAN High-Level Task Force on Post-2025 Vision Convenes in Penang

PENANG, 17 March 2025 – The 22nd Meeting of the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV) commenced today in Penang, Malaysia, bringing together senior representatives to advance discussions on ASEAN’s long-term strategic direction.

Co-chaired by Malaysia and the Philippines, the meeting serves as a crucial platform for ASEAN leaders to refine the draft Kuala Lumpur Declaration, which will formally adopt the ASEAN Community Vision and its strategic plans beyond 2025. The deliberations are expected to focus on strengthening regional cooperation, addressing emerging global challenges, and ensuring the continued relevance and resilience of ASEAN in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.

The task force, comprising high-level representatives from all ASEAN member states, is responsible for shaping ASEAN’s future direction by building on past achievements and identifying key priorities for the next phase of regional integration. The discussions in Penang will further refine ASEAN’s collective vision, ensuring that it remains adaptive to the needs of its people and responsive to global economic, political, and security trends.

As part of the meeting’s agenda, representatives will also explore frameworks to enhance regional economic cooperation, digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development. The Kuala Lumpur Declaration is expected to outline ASEAN’s commitment to reinforcing institutional frameworks, strengthening regional resilience, and fostering a people-centered, forward-looking ASEAN Community.

The outcomes of this meeting will play a pivotal role in shaping ASEAN’s post-2025 roadmap, reinforcing the organization’s unity and centrality in navigating future challenges and opportunities.
