ASEAN-China Media Collaboration Crucial to Combat Misinformation, Says Expert

The recent ASEAN-China Media and Think Tank Forum has the potential to reshape how Southeast Asia communicates across borders—especially in the digital era, says Associate Professor Dr. Sara Chinnasamy of UiTM.

She stressed the importance of coordination in information sharing, particularly during crises, noting that Asia records the highest spread of misinformation globally, according to a four-year study across six regions.

“To face the future effectively, ASEAN must adopt China’s advancements in artificial intelligence and digital communication to strengthen public information delivery,” she added.

Dr. Sara also proposed the establishment of a dedicated ASEAN-China media center to synchronize narratives on economics and geopolitics and to present a unified voice on global issues.
