KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to underscore the importance of consensus among ASEAN member states to boost regional economic integration and trade cooperation when he delivers his keynote address at the ASEAN Investment Conference 2025 (AIC25) tomorrow.
According to the Prime Minister’s Senior Press Secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, Anwar will also raise concerns over the recent imposition of US tariffs, calling for deeper engagement and coordinated action among ASEAN leaders.
“This matter requires comprehensive dialogue and negotiations to strengthen ASEAN’s collective voice,” Tunku Nashrul said during the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) daily briefing, which was streamed live via the Facebook pages of both Anwar and the PMO.
AIC25 is being held in conjunction with the 12th ASEAN Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting (AFMGM), which kicked off today at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The conference is hosting around 300 delegates, including ASEAN finance ministers, central bank governors, officials from international financial institutions, and private sector leaders.
The four-day AFMGM event is expected to focus on strengthening regional financial resilience, accelerating sustainable investment, and addressing global economic challenges, including the implications of protectionist trade measures.
